Problems with a public right of way

Use our online form to report problems with:

  • public footpaths (not roadside pavements) - for use by pedestrians
  • public bridleways - for use by people on foot, horseback or bicycle
  • byways open to all traffic - these have full vehicular rights, but are mainly used as bridleways
  • restricted byways - these have rights on foot, horseback, bicycle and non-mechanical vehicles such as horse and cart

Problems taking place on public rights of way

The following problems should be reported to our teams in other areas.

Dog fouling

Use our online form to let us know if there is an issue with dog poo on a public right of way.

Leaves

Public rights of way do not get swept for leaves and other natural waste, unless they are also classed as an adopted highway with the highways team.

Use our online form to make a request for leaves to be cleared from a public right of way.

Antisocial behaviour

Many types of antisocial behaviour should be reported both to West Yorkshire Police and to ourselves. This allows both of us to gather accurate data on problem areas, which helps us to create plans to tackle antisocial behaviour. This includes the use of motorbikes and quadbikes along a public right of way.

Please check both websites below for further information:

Fallen or broken trees and branches

Use our online form to report fallen trees or branches that do not present an immediate risk to the public, but which are across or hanging beside a public right of way.

Dangerous trees or large broken branches that are hanging above a public right of way, and which do present an immediate risk, must be referred to our forestry team: Tree emergencies

Problems with paths and pavements

  • paths or pavements (roadside pavements)
  • tarmac or general surface problems
  • missing or damaged paving flags
