The Care Leavers Council

Find out how to join the Care Leavers Council and help improve the offer and services available to care leavers in Leeds.

Who can get involved

Young people aged 17 to 25 who have previously spent time in the care of Leeds City Council.

What is involved

  • Meet in person every month to share views and experiences with decision makers to improve the offer and services available to care leavers in Leeds.
  • Gain information on rights and entitlements when leaving care and build skills supportive of independent living.
  • Access training and skill building sessions including children’s rights, democracy, recruitment and selection and debating.
  • Opportunities to take part in staff recruitment for Leeds City Council.
  • Plan and deliver training and events.

Benefits

  • Receive vouchers in recognition of monthly contributions.
  • Meet young people with similar experiences.
  • Represent the views of other care leavers.
