Coffee pod recycling trial

We have teamed up with Podback, a not-for-profit coffee pod recycling service, to trial coffee pod recycling at three of our household waste recycling centres.

Kirkstall, Wetherby and Yeadon recycling centres have two Podback containers at each site - one for aluminium and one for plastic pods.

Coffee, tea or hot chocolate pods from participating brands such as Costa Coffee, Dolce Gusto, Nespresso and many more can be recycled in the Podback containers. You can check the full list of participating brands on the Podback website

Used pods should be dropped into the containers loose and in their entirety - plastic, metal and any leftover grounds or residue.

The pods collected through the recycling trial are sent to Hull for shredding and stay in the UK for reprocessing. The coffee grounds stay within Yorkshire for renewable energy and soil improver.

Compostable pods cannot be recycled in the Podback containers or brown garden waste bins - they should be placed in your home composting bin.

If your local recycling centre is not part of the trial, you can enter your postcode and pod details into Podback’s recycling tracker to find your nearest pod drop-off point.
