Do you like your parents' decorating tastes? Well, the previous owners of Temple Newsam House didn’t! Each generation decorated a different bit of the House, so you can walk back in time through the rooms and immerse yourself in history, from Tudor to Victorian.
Bringing your class?
400 years of history have created a web of stories. Our ethos is to ‘bring the Estate to life’ through our programme of 1 to 4 hour cross-curricular workshops from Early Years Foundation Stage to Secondary. In each session we reveal the people who lived and worked at Temple Newsam and how their stories shaped the wider history of Leeds and national politics, from the objects the they left behind. We think about how the collections got here and explore the tales behind the building, right from the bare bricks. You can also explore the farm and the huge number of rare breed animals care for, navigate the estate, or go pond dipping!
