We are currently closed in order for essential repairs, restoration and thermal improvements to be carried out to our original Victorian roof.
Our reopening date is confirmed as Friday 13 October 2017, so we look forward to welcoming you back to Leeds Art Gallery this year.
Extensive work on all of the glass vaulted roof structures has taken place, which has included removal of existing roof panels, insulation, repair of the structure beneath or replacement of framework and re-glazing. This will ensure that the necessary improvements are made to the gallery, which in turn will help to guarantee the longevity and continued use of our much loved gallery.
We endeavour to keep you updated on the work going on throughout the closure. Follow @LeedsArtGallery on Twitter for the latest news.
Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “It’s time for us to look to the future and focus on how we can ensure visitors can continue to enjoy Leeds Art Gallery’s magnificent collection in the years to come. Last year alone, the gallery attracted more than 430,000 visitors and, as we bid to be named European Capital of Culture 2023, this investment in repairing the roof is a demonstration of our commitment to a building that is clearly part of the bedrock of Leeds’s artistic heritage.”
