Dogs lost and found

Found dogs

If you have found a dog you can report it using the Report a found dog form .

The Leeds City Council dog warden service operates Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. During busy periods they may not be able to collect a dog until the following working day. We recommend taking the dog to your local vet to see whether it has an identification chip which will contain the owners details. Please make sure that the dog is kept in a secure area and cannot escape. The dog will need water and, if possible, some food.

The service does not operate during evenings, weekends or Bank Holidays. If you find a dog during one of these times you can take it to:

Flushdyke Kennels
156 Wakefield Rd.
Ossett
WF5 9AQ

If you need to use the kennel service for a found dog during the times when the dog warden service is not available, please contact the above kennel on 07710 232372 beforehand to arrange a suitable appointment.

A Leeds City Council dog warden can collect a found dog from you and take them to kennels with which we have contracts. The dog will be kept there for 7 days. After 7 days the dog will become the responsibility of the kennel. Kennel details can be found in the kennel information section of this page.

Lost dogs

If you have lost your dog you should use the Report a lost dog form .

If we pick up a dog matching the description you have provided we will contact you. You should also contact the council-affiliated kennels listed in Kennels used by LCC dog wardens as well as other local kennels, vets or the Dogs Trust in case somebody else has found your dog and handed it in. You may also want to check the Dead cats and dogs register page to see if we have picked up your pet.

Our dog wardens also run a Facebook page: Leeds Found Dogs. If a stray dog is found and has to be put into kennels, if we can't contact the owner or it isn't microchipped, we will post a picture of it there along with additional details.

From April 2016, all dogs must be microchipped by law. You can find free microchipping events by Dogs Trust near you.
