Development and training in children and families

A learning offer is available to the wider children and families workforce in Leeds including training on:

  • restorative practice
  • supervision
  • assessment
  • safeguarding
  • child sexual exploitation
  • child development
  • attachment

The Workforce Development team also offers individual support through mentoring and coaching and work with external experts so that training is based on best practice meeting the need and context of Leeds.

Children’s Social Work Service

Colleagues working in the Children’s Social Work Service have access to training, development and support including:

  • comprehensive programme of induction, support and assessment in a social worker’s first year
  • opportunity to teach and assess students through our partnership with the Leeds and Wakefield Teaching partnership
  • regular training linked to knowledge and skills statements and the Professional Capability Framework
  • a career framework with clear training and guidance to progress including opportunities to qualify as a Practice Educator
  • work with leading academics across the country who advise on practice improvement in Leeds, as well as a rolling programme of lectures and masterclasses
  • an aspiring manager programme, leader programme and a team manager induction and training programme
  • an annual social work conference
  • availability to events from Research in Practice and Making Research Count

Leeds is part of a regional partnership in Yorkshire and Humberside called Children's Social Work Matters which is committed to raising the standard of social work.
