Responsible procurement

Responsible procurement is the purchase of goods, works, and services in a socially, economically, and environmentally responsible way that delivers value for money and benefits not only to the council itself but also the city region and its citizens, as well as wider society.

Procurement can play an important role in reducing environmental impacts and working towards sustainability through the products and services we choose. As part of the formal tender process companies are asked to demonstrate what they are doing in terms of their environmental practices and community support.

Throughout the procurement lifecycle we will engage with stakeholders to ensure our procurements properly reflect need and opportunity, and take account of the wider context, including the council’s plans and strategies, locality working and procuring responsibly.
