Tall Buildings Design Guide

The aim of the document is to establish clear principles and advice to ensure that tall buildings are well designed in appropriate locations whilst also enhancing the skyline at the same time.  It promotes sustainable approaches to the planning and design of tall buildings whilst at the same time providing more certainty about the appropriateness and location of tall buildings. It challenges design teams to design high quality tall buildings to be successfully integrated within the local and city context. It provides a simple methodology to preserve the character and appearance of Conservation Areas and protect important buildings, views and settings.
The guide provides:

• Key principles required for good practice in the location and design of tall buildings.
• An appreciation of the context and local distinctiveness of Leeds.
• Examples of good and bad practice.
• Reference to national and local policy frameworks.
• A background of the emerging physical framework for tall buildings and the skyline of Leeds which applicants and their agents can contribute to.
• A checklist for planning applications.
