Annual canvass part-time work

Opportunity to undertake paid casual evening/weekend work in October/November 2018

Electoral Services are looking for individuals to work as Electoral Registration Visiting Officers (ERVOs) on behalf of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).

The ERO must visit households where no response has been received to Household Enquiry Forms. ERVOs will carry out these visits to obtain responses from households. This is mainly evening and weekend work and can be carried out alongside your normal job.

In order to carry out this role you must be able to:

  • attend training which will last approximately 60 minutes (Friday 12th October at 5.30pm or Saturday 13th October at 9.00am)
  • collect your forms and equipment from Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AD on Friday 19 October between 8am and 6pm
  • varry out visits between Friday 19 October and Monday 26 November
  • return your forms and equipment to Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AD by 5pm on Monday 26 November

Payment for Household Enquiry Forms

Task Payment
Up to two visits with a HEF posted on the second visits 25p per property
Up to two visits with a completed HEF (either by post or online) £1.85 per property
Completion of ERVO Registration form (new electors only) 50p per completed form

Other payments:


£50 administration payment to cover:

  • Route planning
  • Sortation of forms
  • Preparation of stationery
  • Completion of paperwork


A payment of £20 will be paid to all Visiting Officers who attend training and carry out the duties to which they have been appointed.

Anyone who attends training and does not undertake the duties will have the training payment withheld.


It may be possible to reimburse travel expenses to Visiting Officers who cover large or rural areas. Such payments must be agreed prior to the commencement of duties and are at the discretion of the Electoral Services Management Team.
