Leeds Housing Strategy

The Council’s vision is for Leeds to be the best city in the UK, one that is compassionate, with a strong economy, that tackles poverty and reduces inequality.

Housing has a critical role in helping the Council to achieve its vision and deliver the Core Strategy, and this is reflected in our Housing Vision: Effectively meeting affordable and social housing need, promoting independence and creating sustainable communities to make Leeds the best place to live.

We have seen lots of progress over the last 5 years with significant investment in affordable housing, including the first new Council homes being built for over 20 years. We have also seen a massive reduction in the number of empty homes, and the number of households living in temporary accommodation. These achievements put us in a strong position as we launch our 2016-2021 Housing Strategy. Written with tenant consultation, it sets out our ambitions for effectively meeting the needs of those in greatest housing need over the next 5 years.
