Leeds Housing Options

Leeds Housing Options is our advice service if you are homeless, at risk of homelessness or simply want advice about your housing options.

We operate a drop-in service, which means you may need to wait to see someone. Our busiest time is midday to 2pm, so you may wish to avoid these times in order to be seen more quickly.

We recommend that you don’t visit near closing time at 4pm. This is to ensure the team have time to do as much as possible for you on the day of your visit.

If your enquiry is complex, a Housing Advisor may sit down with you to complete a Housing Needs Assessment. We will ask about your housing situation and personal using based on your needs.

To save time, please bring all documents which you think might be relevant to your situation with you, for example:

  • identification for yourself and any family members
  • your current tenancy agreement


You are homeless if you do not have a home that you can legally occupy. You may also be homeless if you have a home but can’t secure entry to it or it is not reasonable for you to remain there.

If you are faced with homelessness and have long term mental health difficulties, you may be able to get assistance from the Mental Health Homeless Team.

Homelessness applications

We have a legal obligation to find out what duty we owe you if you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and will do everything we can to help you find accommodation or remain in your current home. Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to rehouse you temporarily if you have nowhere to go.

Decisions and appeals

You will be notified of our decision in writing. Government guidelines suggest that local authorities take no longer than 33 days to make decisions on individual homelessness applications, but we will usually be able to let you know much more quickly than this.

If you disagree with our decision you are entitled to request a review. This is carried out by an independent officer.
