Solar panels on a roof in LeedsBoost of energy for Housing Leeds tenants as solar programme reaches full power!

Housing Leeds, Leeds City Council and Better Homes Yorkshire (Keepmoat and Wilmott Dixon) teamed to start work on a solar programme to cut energy bills and help to reduce the city’s emissions.

With 1003 solar systems now installed in council homes across the city, here are some of the benefits:

  • Free use of electricity generated during the day.
  • Reduced energy bills.
  • Helping to alleviate fuel poverty and the knock on health benefits.
Since installations began in September, the solar panels have generated 90762.46 kW-h of energy – enough to power 22 houses for a year. Based on average electricity costs, and if all that electricity was used, that represents a total £11,800 saving for tenants.

The benefits extend beyond our tenants, with a reduction of around 862 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year predicted – that’s the equivalent of taking four hundred and fifty two cars off the road!

The solar programme is part of a package of energy saving solutions being powered by Leeds City Council and its partners to make a difference to the lives of all Leeds citizens.
