Flood risk strategy

We protect the city by managing 100km of watercourses across the Leeds area.

This is done by:

  • clearing grilles of debris at hotspots
  • investigating the causes of flooding incidents
  • working with partners such as the Environment Agency and planners on flood risk and prevention
  • designing flood alleviation works
  • inspecting pumping stations and reservoirs

As part of a six year planning cycle, we carry out a preliminary flood risk assessment (PFRA). You can view our most recent assessment on Leeds Data Mill.

If you would like to know more about the preventative work we do or want a copy of our flood risk strategy and register of assets, email us at frm@leeds.gov.uk.
