Data used to plan school places

The birth and under 5s data we use to assist us in planning school places comes from the NHS and is supplied annually from hospital and GP records.

This information allows us to map the location of all children aged between zero and five years living in Leeds.

The data is monitored against previous years’ data and is used to highlight areas of the city where birth rates are increasing. We use parental preference data to better understand the pattern of demand for school places.

We also consider housing developments that may impact on local schools. We are involved in influencing the Core Housing strategy and the Site Allocations plan to ensure that there are enough school places to accommodate the children that move into any new developments.
