Travel assistance for post-16 learners with special educational needs and disabilities
We have undertaken a review of transport assistance for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Post-16 education. A consultation with families, young people and a range of agencies took place last year. We would like to thank all of you who took time to give us your feedback – this was very valuable. We had a very high level of interest and received a wide range of views.
We have carefully considered what you told us, and presented recommendations which were approved by our Executive Board (the council’s decision making body) on Monday 17th July.
The Executive Board Report can be found on this documents section of this page along with the children’s transport policy 2017/18.
You can also view our consultation report which outlines the feedback captured during the consultation along with frequently asked questions.
The new policy will not apply to learners who are in post-16 education in September 2017, including those entering post-16 education for the first time, except where they have a significant change in circumstances.
If you have a child starting post-16 Education in September 2018, who is currently in receipt of transport assistance, we will contact you in the near future to give you more details about what this means for your child.
If you have a child starting post-16 Education in September 2019 or later, who is in receipt of transport assistance in Year 11, you’ll be given the chance to talk about what the policy changes will mean for you. This will be done as part of the annual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) review process
