Order copy certificates

We can provide copy certificates for all births, deaths and marriages which took place in the Leeds district dating back to 1837. Our records for civil partnerships date from 2005.

Fees for Birth/Death/Marriage/Civil Partnership certificates

The fee depends on how quickly you want the certificate(s)

  • Standard certificate £10
  • Priority certificate £26
  • Express certificate £37  


  • UK postage fee £2 (per order), all certificate orders sent by post within the UK are sent by 'Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For' delivery
  • Airmail postage fee (outside UK) £2 (per order)

We will normally be able to give you the certificate in 30 minutes. The last express orders are 4pm.​​​​</div>

A signature is required on receipt and we cannot guarantee next day delivery. Those ordered after 1pm will be posted the following working day. For certificates sent outside the UK delivery times scales will vary. <br><br> For orders received in person at the Register Office before 1pm the certificate will be ready for collection the following working day. The last priority service certificate orders must be placed by 4pm. ​​​​</div>

Send your application form and cheque or postal order made payable to 'Leeds City Council' to:<br><br> Leeds Register Office<br> 2 Great George Street<br> Leeds<br> LS2 8BA.<br><br>We aim to process certificates in 10 working days, but during busy periods it can be up to 6 weeks before you will receive the certificate. We suggest if you need the certificate as a matter of urgency then you must use the priority service.<br><br> Standard certificates are posted ‘Royal Mail Signed For® 1st Class’, so a signature is required on receipt. Leeds Register Office is not liable for any certificates that are delayed or lost in the post.​​​​</div>
What information do I need to provide when I order a certificate?What information do I need to provide when I order a certificate?<div class="ExternalClass9877FC5B825A4C6396EEBA3AA4180522"><strong>For a birth</strong><br><br>The full name of the person, date of birth, place of birth and the names of the parent(s) and mother's maiden name.<br><br><strong>For a death</strong><br><br>The full name of the deceased, date of death and the place of death.<br><br><strong>For a marriage/civil partnership</strong><br><br>The full names of bride and groom/civil partners, date of marriage, name of the church or venue where marriage/civil partnership took place.​</div>
