Apply for citizenship

How to apply

There two ways to apply for British citizenship by naturalisation with help from Leeds City Council. We are authorised by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) - Ref no F200600150.

You can either:

  • apply online and then use the Nationality Document Return Service (NDRS) within 10 days of submitting your application
  • fill in a paper form and use the Nationality Checking Service (NCS)

Please visit Gov.uk for more information about eligibility and what documents you need to provide for citizenship.

Apply using the Nationality Checking Service

If you are applying using a paper application we can:

  • check that your application form has been filled in correctly before it is submitted to the Home Office
  • copy and certify your original documents
  • send your application & a copy of your documents to the Home Office by secure mail

Apply online, then use the Nationality Document Return Service

If you have submitted and paid for your application online to the Home Office we can:

  • copy and certify your original documents
  • send a copy of your documents to the Home Office by secure mail

Your appointment with us must be within 10 days of submitting your application online. Please be aware that as it’s not always possible for us to provide you with an appointment within 10 days, we advise that you do not submit and pay for the application online before you have a confirmed appointment with us.
