New Beginnings: Leeds Migration Stories opens 18 MarchNew Beginnings: Leeds Migration Stories opens 18 March<div class="ExternalClass814225B2DCCF4B35A9D23A202E3EC7AF"><p>​An exhibition curated by the Preservative Party, exploring migration in Leeds through individual narratives, starting from the late 1800s going right up to the current day. This display will focus on the unique experiences of a number of people throughout history and their contribution to the city of Leeds following their relocation. It will feature people such as Jogendra Sen who came to Leeds in 1910 to study electrical engineering and fought as a member of the Leeds Pals during the First World War.  <br></p><p><img src="/museumsandgalleries/leedscitymuseum/PublishingImages/Suitcase.jpg" alt="" style="margin:5px;" /><br></p></div>

The group has been going since 2010 and since then we’ve made films, given tours, run events, gone on trips and curated exhibitions.  </div><div> </div><div>It’s a great way to meet new people, get involved in something different, and get valuable real world skills for your future. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Previous Preservative Party displays include ‘Protest’ about the history of protest in Leeds and ‘In Their Footsteps’ which looked at the experiences of Leeds people during the First World War. When we curate an exhibition we do everything – including the research, writing all the information and installing the objects. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Our 2018 projects include a display in Leeds City Museum’s Community Corridor (27th March – 24th June) called ‘Teenage Kicks’ which looks at the experiences of teenagers since the 1950s.
