Tin

This tin for "Genuine Bile Beans" was made by C.E. Fulford Ltd. of Leeds. Bile Beans were originally invented and promoted by Charles Edward Fulford (b.1869 in Canada, died in 1906) and Ernest Albert Gilbert (b.1875 in England, died in 1905) and the formula was first devised in 1899 in Australia.  A central distributing depot of the Bile Beans Manufacturing Co. opened in Greek Street, Leeds in 1899.  The company of C.E. Fulford Ltd. are listed in directories from 1908 to 1961 as manufacturers of patent medicines.  Other products included Pep pastilles, Zambuk ointment and Vitapoint hair conditioner.
