Leeds in Bloom Design a Flowerbed Competition

Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress with the 2013 competition winnerEach spring we ask local children to dream up designs for flowerbeds and edible beds in prominent locations in Leeds City Centre.

Winning designs are translated into planting schemes and the people of Leeds see them bloom over the summer months. 

Winner receive individual prizes plus horticultural gift vouchers for their school at an award ceremony with the Lord Mayor of Leeds.

Promoted by our Parks and Countryside Service in association with Leeds Floral Initiative and Evans Property Group Leeds, this popular competition aims to encourage young people to be more aware of their environment and the horticultural features within it.

How do I enter the design a flowerbed competition?How do I enter the design a flowerbed competition?<div class="ExternalClass624CD8F05EAF4F849FFCC77F6C5FB644">​The Leeds in Bloom Design a Flowerbed Competition is open to all children in Leeds aged 4 to 14. The competition opens each September and closes on the 31 March 2015. Look out for posters in Libraries and information packs sent to schools.​​<span id="ms-rterangecursor-start" style="display:none;"></span><span id="ms-rterangecursor-end" style="display:none;"></span></div>
What does it involve?What does it involve?<div class="ExternalClass8AD63129D8A54D658EC39052F067096F">Anyone between ages 4 to 14 can enter this popular competition.<br><br> Entries should be imaginative and original. The idea is to design a pattern or collage rather than a garden scene or picture. Remember the designs have to be translated into a planting scheme.<br><br>Individual entries only. No shared or group designs are allowed.<br><br>Each design must be no larger than A3 and should be clearly labelled with the title of your design, your ​full name, age and your school's name, address and telephone number.<br><br>The judges' decision is final. No correspondence concerning the competition will be entered into.<br><br>All entries will be returned to their owners after the competition. <br><br>The Floral Initiative reserves the right to display or reproduce any of the designs without seeking the individual’s permission.​</div>
