Grow your own

The Parks and Countryside Service offers support for people who would like to grow their own plants.

If you are interested in growing your own food or getting involved in a local community food growing project but don't have a garden, there are a several ways to go about it:

  • hire an allotment
  • find an alternative piece of land to grow food on.

The Parks and Countryside service are keen to support community groups that are interested in growing their own food.  Recently successful community food growing projects have been set up with the 'Friends of Cross Flatts Park' and 'Headingley Community Orchard' who have both created food growing areas on parks and countryside land so local people can enjoy their harvest.

If you have an idea for a food growing project on a green space in Leeds, contact us on 0113 395 7457 and we will see what we can do.

Feed Leeds

Leeds City Council Parks and Countryside service are currently working with partners on a new community food growing initiative for the city called ‘Feed Leeds’.  The Feed Leeds partnership aims to promote and support community food growing projects across the city.

The winners were:

  • Jennifer Lawrence – Headingley Community Orchard
  • Sharpe Lane Primary School
  • Richard Howson – Right Choices community project
