Ready Steady Readers

Bring your babies and toddlers along to Leeds libraries and join our Ready Steady Readers programme. It’s a great way to:

  • introduce your children to books, reading and language activities
  • help them develop their communication skills and give them a flying start in life
  • spend quality time with your children
  • meet other parents and carers

Our libraries are all free – it’s free to join, free to borrow books and we don’t charge for the late return of books. (But it does help us if you can remember to bring your books back on time!) We have lots of free events and activities for all the family too.

To find out more, contact your local library.

Storytime and Rhymetime

All our libraries have weekly Storytimes and Rhymetimes for you and your children to enjoy. These sessions introduce children to the world of stories and rhymes, helping them develop early language skills and a love of books and reading.

To find out when Rhymetimes and Storytimes are happening, contact your local library.

Story Buses

Leeds libraries has two brand new Story Buses called Nelly and Sam. Inside these special buses you’ll discover a treasure trove of books and fun activities.

Our friendly team can help you choose books to borrow that will suit every taste: fairytales and nursery rhymes, books to make you giggle, and books to help you learn.

Between February and June 2020, the buses will run a taster programme visiting community locations and Children’s Centres across Leeds. They’ll also be popping up at community events and festivals during the school holidays. The buses will start running a regular programme in the Autumn.
