Millennium Square is Leeds’ award winning city centre outdoor public space and live entertainment venue. Situated in front of Leeds Civic Hall in the heart of the civic quarter and surrounded by some of the city’s other most significant and iconic buildings; this unique space is accessible to all - and hosts a varied programme of year round events.
Built as Leeds' flagship project to mark the year 2000, the venue is now widely renowned as a multi-functional live event venue hosting a wide range of year round events and activities including; the annual Christkindelmarkt German Christmas market, Ice Cube outdoor temporary ice rink, Yorkshire Food & Drink Festival, City Beach together with various multi-cultural and community celebrations including; Leeds Pride, Vaisakhi and St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
The square is also home to the Leeds Big Screen, regularly showing live major sporting events including Wimbledon Tennis Championships and World Cup and European Championship Football plus various theatrical screenings and other cultural and local content.

The webcam is mounted on the roof of the Leeds Civic Hall and overlooks Millennium Square. The view covers the Town Hall on the right and the Carriageworks Theatre complex in the centre. The brick chimney of the Electric Press printworks is on the far left.

Victoria Gardens is one of Leeds City Centre’s most prominent and popular outdoor spaces located in front of Leeds Art Gallery, Central Library, and the Henry Moore Institute. With an impressive backdrop of Leeds Town Hall the area has been described as an ‘urban oasis’ for city workers and residents. When the weather permits the Central Library provides the chess pieces for Leeds City Centres giant chess boards located to the West of the gardens.
The gardens is also host to a range of events throughout the year including; Armed Forces Day, Light Night, the Leeds Light Switch-On, and Chanukah celebrations. Victoria Gardens is also proud to be home to the Cenotaph war memorial which is the focal point of many community celebrations such as the Armed Forces Day Flag Raising, Workers Day, Victory in Europe Day, Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
