Why foster with us?

There are many reasons to foster with Leeds City Council. We are 100% not for profit and all our carers receive financial support, allowances, a comprehensive training package, a personal support worker and free gym membership.

Fostering is a rewarding and challenging experience. It can give you a sense of purpose and you will know you are making a difference to a child's life. See what our current foster carers have to say about their experiences.

You'll have lots of opportunities to access training to develop your skills in supporting children and young people through difficult times.

You can:

  • attend courses with all travel expenses paid
  • complete online training

All these opportunities will work around your childcare commitments.

Financial support

Financial support is made up of two parts, a weekly allowance based on the age of the child and a weekly fee based on your skill level. Your skill level will be discussed with you at the home visit stage.

The fee based on your skills level means you can receive extra weekly payments up to a maximum of £224 per child.

The basic weekly allowance per child is:

Weekly allowance per child
Childs age Amount
0-4 years £142.86
5-10 years £162.73
11-15 years £202.58
16 years plus £246.44

The allowances are examples and are updated annually.
