Domestic violence and abuse for health care professionals

Domestic violence and abuse is a major public health problem. There is a link between domestic violence, physical and mental health and child wellbeing.

Health care professionals are often the first people those experiencing domestic violence will tell. The initial reaction of that person and the follow up can have a profound effect.

Because of this the Department of Health has issued guidelines for Health Professionals.

Locally there are Health Care pathways which those in health can follow to assist with asking about domestic violence and abuse and making appropriate referrals.
