Over 125,000 Council Tax payers in Leeds currently receive a 25% Single Person Discount (SPD).
Over the next few weeks we will be carrying out checks to make sure that these discounts are still required.
These checks form part of our measures to make sure that Council Tax bills are accurate, and that our records are up to date.
Capita Local Government Services based in Bromley, Kent, have been appointed to carry out a comprehensive review. Capita will work with a leading credit reference agency using data-matching technology and other sources of information to identify where people are claiming discounts that they may not be entitled to.
What does this mean for me?
Where it is identified that a Single Person Discount no longer applies, the Council Tax payer will be required to pay the money back. However, we want to ensure that genuine single occupancy residents continue to receive their Single Person Discount entitlement. If you live alone and are claiming Single Person Discount, there is nothing to worry about.
If you receive a Single Person Discount review letter or reminder, you can complete your review online.
