Leeds City Council is the licensing authority and regulatory body for Leeds’ taxi and private hire industries.
We are the third largest licensing authority in England and Wales licensing and regulating (as of 1 January 2017):
- 951 Hackney carriage drivers
- 537 Hackney carriage vehicles
- 5150 Private hire drivers
- 4284 private hire vehicles
- 78 Private hire operators
Due to recent developments within the taxi and private hire industry, including advancements in technology and changes in law, we are reviewing many of our policies and conditions that govern the licensing of taxi and private hire operators, drivers and vehicles.
What is being consulted on?
Throughout 2017, the Taxi and Private Hire Licensing service in Leeds consulted on a number of different policies.
November 14 update
The council has received a
proposal from the local Hackney Carriage (taxi) Associations to revise the fare tariffs in Leeds (PDF 185MB).
The fares have remained the same since the last changes in 2012.
We would encourage anyone who uses taxis to give us their comments on the proposed fare changes.
All of our consultation will take place for a period of four weeks and the dates will be published alongside supporting consultation documentation.
Online surveys will be used wherever possible but you are also invited submit your views by email:
