LNRs are sites of special interest within the Leeds district for nature conservation, the study or enjoyment of wildlife, geology or landforms. They are a statutory designation operated by the Council in consultation with Natural England, the Government’s agency for nature conservation.
Habitats range from ancient woodland to conifer plantations; from wetland to limestone meadow and from open heathland to river valley.
Fairburn Ings
Another Local Nature Reserve, Fairburn Ings, is owned by Leeds City Council but managed by the
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
