Scoot to school schemes offers an exciting and healthy way for children to get to school.
Children often find scooting to school more fun than walking and it provides a good alternative to cycling where parents deem roads to be too dangerous.
There are no restrictions for micro scooter use on pavements and walkways meaning children are away from vehicles.
By encouraging children to take part in scoot to school schemes, schools can also reduce the number of cars arriving at the gates.
Pupils from Templenewsam Halton Primary School recently took part in a scoot to school scheme pilot as part of a congestion reduction project in a bid to cut traffic around their school by leaving the car at home and taking up healthy alternatives.
Since the introduction of the scoot to school scheme in January 2010, car journeys have been reduced by 16.4%, having a significant impact on congestion around the school site.
Following the success at Templenewsam Halton, other schools are now following suit. White Laith Primary and Fieldhead Carr Primary schools in Whinmoor, Kippax North Primary school, East Ardsley Primary School and St Bartholomew's CofE Voluntary Controlled Primary School in Armley have recently launched their own scoot to school schemes.
