Learning at Thwaite Mills Watermill Hello! Welcome to Learning at Thwaite Mills.

Did you know there is an island in Leeds?

Thwaite Mills is a calm oasis of green in amongst the industry in south Leeds, sandwiched between the river and the canal. It’s a working watermill, with creaking waterwheels and lush fields and woodlands all perfect for butterflies, birds and bumblebees. Much of the work we do at Thwaite Mills is centred around the environment and how we can keep it looking beautiful.

We are here to help you navigate your way around the island and the mill collections.  After all, they all belong to you: the people of Leeds. Our mantra is: curiosity, creativity and conversation and all our work stems from those three principles.

Whether you are a teacher looking for classroom resources or out of the classroom experiences; a parent looking for free things to do in the school holidays or with your under five; or a young person interested in the arts, then this is the portal to set you on the right track. Find out what's on at Thwaite Mills or one of our other sites.

So, have a browse, find something that interests you, get curious, follow a train of thought, experiment, visit, try something new, revisit old skills or get in touch.

Working to keep everyone safe:
Thwaite Mills is committed to keeping everyone safe. All staff receive safeguarding training and staff who work closely with children, young people or vulnerable adults are CRB checked every three years. As part of Leeds City Council, we adhere to the Leeds Safeguarding Boards policies and procedures and practice safer recruitment.
