'Food for Thought' workshop at LMDC with People in Action

Our aim is to make the collections at Leeds accessible to everyone. As such, we run a varied general What's On programme of family activities, collections-based workshops, talks and events alongside tailored activities in partnership with community, interest and social groups across the service and as an outreach service.

All of our Museums and Galleries showcase community work and engage with groups in different ways through the Community History Team.  For example, Leeds City Museum is a great place to explore the different communities and cultures within the city.  You can make use of our eight interactive podiums in the Arena and two community cases in the Leeds Gallery to showcase your connections with the city past and present.  There are over 30 films, where we worked in partnership with the Yorkshire Film Archive of our previous community projects including Faith in the City and Steps in Time.  These can be viewed at Mojo Museums on You Tube.  We have also been involved in community projects such as A Greener City and a project with St. Anne's Community Services.

We work in partnership with the West Yorkshire Archive Service on projects like the current 'Carnival' exhibition for 2011. The work and collections of these organisations compliment each other and would support a community heritage project.  Contact either the Community History Team or the West Yorkshire Archive Service if you have any enquiries about this.

There is more information about volunteering and object loans available from the Museums and Galleries pages.
