History

The wood lies between the bridleway from Pontefract Lane and the formal gardens south of the house. Conifers are quite young on land re-claimed from opencast mining.

Pegasus Avenue was created as a lasting memorial to mark the 50th Anniversary of WW2 parachute landings and the Battle of Arnhem and the memorial stone is well worth visiting.

The trees are individually funded and details of donors and those remembered for war time service are kept in the books of Remembrance in the Visitors Centre and reception area of the Stable Courtyard.

A popular visiting site for those wishing to remember fallen comrades and their relatives in peaceful surroundings.

Access

Either via Pontefract Lane bridleway due north of the house or from car park to the site just south of the house itself.
