History

Consists of hazel, some 250 year old oaks, sweet chestnuts, beech and 25 year birch. Recent clearance of rhododendron and branches has helped regeneration and the ancient system of coppicing younger, flexible wood has provided supplies for fuel, fencing and craftwork.

Mammals seen include bats, voles, rabbits, roe deer and foxes, along with the small skipper butterfly. Birds include sparrow hawks and the lesser-spotted woodpecker.


Access

From Bullerthorpe Lane main bridlepath turning left just before the Ponds or from the farm estate car parks to the bridge over the ponds, turning right into the woods
