Planted

Originally shown in Lancelot (Capability) Brown's plan of 1762, probably the oldest wood on the estate.

History

Full of large mature trees together with new regeneration. A real variety: oak, birch, sycamore larch, cherry, holly, rowan, ash, and hazel. A tree spotter's delight! Spring bluebells add colour to the open ground underneath.

The old estate boundary wall foundations, several bricks high in places, can be seen running parallel to the old Pontefract Lane.

Peaceful and attractive within, but occasionally disturbed by misuse of the bridle path between Halton Moor Estate and Pegasus wood.

Access

From Pontefract Land then left along the bridlepath running east to west or direct from Temple Newsam Road along Bridleway.
