Estate Volunteers
Every Tuesday since 1990 the Estate Volunteers have been going out onto the Estate, undertaking a mixture of
conservation, forestry and construction work. They are responsible for a number of notable achievements such as
the construction of an "Easy Going" route along the Avenue, long-term management of our coppice woodlands,
countless metres of post and wire fencing, new gates and stiles and the management of thousands of square
metres of rhododendron.
The Estate Volunteers began with just three volunteers. Now it has grown to be the largest single volunteer
group at Temple Newsam, with over forty people, which averages fifteen people every Tuesday. The Estate Volunteers
have an active social and training programme.
