History
The park and gardens have been created and re-designed over many years, influenced by the wealth of the current owner and the fashions of the time. Despite opencast coal mining in the 20th century you can still see much of the structure of the landscape designed in the 18th century by William Etty and 'Capability Brown'.

Other features that survive to the present day include the 18th century walled garden, the south terrace of the house and the Victorian cast iron fountain of the south garden.
