A three volume illustrated survey of the furniture at two celebrated country house museums. The main strength of the collection is elite English 18th century furniture, much of it commissioned for great houses now destroyed. Temple Newsam also harbours many excellent Tudor and Stuart pieces, including important holdings of regional furniture, while Lotherton Hall contains an impressive array of well documented Victorian masterpieces. Although the English content of the collection is dominant, it also contains a notable range of Dutch, French, Germanic and Italian work, plus a repertoire of Oriental furniture.
