George, eighth Viscount Irwin (1694-1763). British School, 18th century, 19¼ X 25¼ (74 X 64)

After leaving Oxford George entered the church, becoming a canon of Westminster and Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons. He succeeded his brother as eighth Viscount and owner of Temple Newsam in 1761. However, he never resided at the house which had been made over to his nephew and heir, Charles, the future ninth Viscount in 1758.
