The Crimson Bedroom
The Crimson Bedroom came into being in 1738 with the division of the Jacobean Gallery and was occupied by Mrs
Meynell Ingram probably from the time she inherited Temple Newsam in 1871 until her death here in 1904.
It was hung with a splendid crimson flock paper in the Regency period and this has recently been faithfully
reproduced. The furniture reflects the taste of the early 18th century while the portraits show some of the
sons of the 3rd Viscount and Viscountess Irwin.
