Temple Newsam is an extraordinary and dynamic museum. Housed within a magnificent Tudor-Jacobean mansion are
rich collections of art objects, officially designated as being of national importance. Constantly added to
through new acquisitions, the collections are displayed in rooms that are gradually being restored to their
original, historically accurate, decorative schemes.
Conservation and restoration play an invaluable part in the care, preservation and presentation of Temple Newsam
and its collections. An ongoing programme of work carried out by in-house conservators, curators and freelance
specialist contractors ensures that this rich heritage will be enjoyed by many generations to come.
