The Weekes Cabinet

The cabinet is a fine example of the exquisite taste and craftsmanship of the very last years of the eighteenth century. The clock in the pediment is inscribed "Weekes' Museum, Titchborne Street", the retail establishment which specialised in specialist luxury goods and automata which were so fashionable at the time.

Originally there was a pinned barrel organ behind the lower cupboard doors, which co-ordinated with the clock to strike on the hour. The lower drawer contains a complete lady's toilet, and the upper drawer is a secretaire. Above, the gazed cupboards would have held books or porcelain.
