Norfolk Horn
Norfolk Horns are a medium sized, long bodied sheep that are alert and active. It was one of the ancient heath
breeds. The Norfolk Horn was used along with Southdowns in the development of the Suffolk breed of sheep.
In 1973 the Norfolk Horn breed became extinct, and was revived by grading up Suffolk, Wiltshire Horn and Swaledale
to 15/16ths Norfolk Horn. The result was initially referred to as 'New Norfolk Horn' but in 1984 reverted back to
Norfolk Horn.
The faces and legs are dark and free from wool. The fleeces are white, close and short stapled, but new-born
lambs are dark or mottled, lightening with age. Both sexes are strongly horned, ideally with an open spiral.
Average mature ewes weigh 70 -75kg, rams 90 - 95kg.
