Hebridean
An island breed derived from primitive sheep that once roamed Scotland and the Isles. Historically they have
been kept to grace the parkland of stately homes, but more recently used in crossbreeding for the production of
prime lamb or used for conservation grazing.
A small, fine boned sheep with both sexes being horned, about 10% of animals have 4 horns. The fleece is black
or dark brown but silvers with age. The Hebridean is a very active and long-lived sheep, ewes often still lambing
well at 10yrs or more. They thrive on all types of grazing and respond well to all management systems. Average
mature ewes weigh 30-40kg, rams 50-55kg.
