Large Black
Large black or 'blue' pigs were once common across southern England and were brought together as one breed
known as the Large Black at the end of the 19th Century when the breed society was also formed.
A large, docile breed that is both hardy and good at foraging, it is also protected in hot climates by its
colour. The sows make excellent mothers, producing plenty of milk to rear large litters.
A long, deep pig with lop ears and a fairly heavy coat of fine black hair on a black coloured skin.
