Vorwerk
A light breed originating in Hamburg, Germany. Bred by Oskar Vorwerk in 1900, his aim was to provide a
middle-weight utility bird that was both lively and good natured. They are good foragers with a small appetite
and quick to mature.
A broad, deep-bodied bird with a fairly low carriage, a single red comb with four to six serrations, well
rounded wattles, white lobes and clean legs.
Available: Large Hen 4.5-5.5lb, 2-2.5kg.
Cockerel 5.5-7lb, 2.5-3.2kg.
Bantam Hen 1.5lb, 0.68kg.
Bantam Cockerel 2lb, 0.91kg.
Colours: Deep buff body with velvety black head, hackle and tail. Orange-red eyes and slate grey legs
and feet.
Eggs: tinted to cream.
