Silkie

An ancient breed that originated in Asia, probably from India or China and Japan. They make excellent broody hens.

A compact but lively bird, It has a broad stout body with blue or black skin and silky or wool-like feathers. It has a soft, full crest; an almost circular comb and concave wattles. The legs are feathered.

Available: large fowl or miniature.
Weight: Large Hen 2lb, 0.90kg
Cockerel 3lb, 1.35kg.

Colours: white; gold; black; blue, partridge.
Eggs: tinted to cream.

This breed is not kept at Temple Newsam at present.
