Golden Gurnsey
A native of the Channel Island of Guernsey, this goat was in danger of becoming extinct. An inhabitant of the
island, Miss Miriam Milbourne, hid the last remaining examples of the goats in caves on the island during WWII,
when all livestock was being killed to feed the invading forces. She started a breeding programme with these
few remaining goats.
They have a distinctive appearance; golden skin with silky golden hair which can be long or short.
The ears are large and pointing forward with a slight upturn at the tip. Their robust and hardy nature compensates
for their milk yield, which is lower than the more popular breeds. They are affectionate and docile.
