Incubator and Brooders

These were developed to imitate the mother hen and meant that the number of chicks hatched and reared could be increased. Many of the earlier incubators and brooder used paraffin which was smelly, needed constant monitoring and was less controllable than the more modern electric models, hence they became obsolete.
