Pickering Farmers' Float

Purchased at an auction near Wakefield as a 'Pickering Farmers Float', this cart is for carrying sheep, pigs or small cattle. The deep body is set on a cranked axle and so provides a low floor, while the tail-board lets down to form a gangway, which all helps for loading the animals. A similar vehicle was made by the East Yorkshire and Crosskills Cart and Waggon Co. Ltd. of Beverley in 1904 and had a carrying capacity of 15 cwts.
